What 2017 Has In Store For Enterprise Analytics
Investment in standalone data discovery tools by IT departments has not yielded the increased usage they expected. According to the 2017 State of Analytics Adoption, there has been a 24 percent decline in adoption of self-service analytic tools over the past two years. Supporting these tools has inhibited spend in other areas. 300 Million Smartphones Will Have Machine Learning Ability
More than 300 million smartphones, or a fifth of units sold, will have neural network and machine learning functions in 2017, according to Deloitte. This artificial intelligence will be used to for everything from indoor navigation to image classification to augmented reality and speech recognition. In addition, Deloitte said that these tools will not necessarily need to be connected. “On-board machine learning may allow tasks to be done better and faster, or with more privacy,” said Deloitte in its Global Predictions 2017 report.

Ransomware, DDoS Now Top Threats As Hackers Look For Big Paydays
Attempts to extort a ransom — either by threatening or carrying out a distributed denial of service attack, or by infecting PCs with ransomware — is the most common motivation behind digital attacks, according to a survey. Ransom attacks are a highly lucrative business for online criminals, and profit is now the primary motivation behind the majority of attacks on enterprise systems, growing from 25 percent of attacks in 2015 to 41 percent in 2016. In Europe that figure was even higher, at 49 percent, said the survey by security company Radware.
Arxan Acquires MAM Provider Apperian
Application security provider Arxan Technologies has announced the acquisition of mobile app management provider Apperian to help its mobile and Internet of Things push. Discussions between the two companies had been going on for almost a year with a plethora of options on the table, from strategic partnerships to investment, before settling on acquisition because both companies’ management “felt that there were so many synergies that the companies could maximize impact and value by becoming one organization,” an Apperian spokesperson told Enterprise AppsTech.

Nokia’s Vision For Digital Health
When Nokia said it had no plans to make mobile handsets again, that wasn’t the end of its hardware ambitions: last year it bought Withings, a health devices company headquartered in France. The deal concluded in June last year, bringing together Withings’ hardware capabilities with Nokia’s own patient care and preventative health teams. The two will form the basis of Nokia’s digital health business unit, which will “design smarter products for healthy living”, according to the company.

A survey from Telenor Group has unveiled that mobile connectivity is fueling growth in Asia’s startup scene. The survey covered technology buffs to better understand key startup trends for 2017 and the challenges and views of entrepreneurs in Asia. To gauge the interests and personalities of the survey respondents, each person was assigned the type of startup they were most likely to create in 2017, based on pattern of their responses.
